Caged
This is a project I made out of steel, plaster, and cotton modeled after to be an abstract throat or tongue. It focuses on combining interior and exterior. In this case it's the power of the voice and how the voice(words) can be: intimate delicate weak strong revolutionary and a driven force of identity and society.
Within the the vessel an exert from Dr. Maya Angelou's poem "I know why the caged bird sings" is recited by me.
At first the viewer cannot hear it until they listen careful, and become intimate with the piece.
